Good Day, Colonel Gregory D. Peterson,

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) hereby demands that you immediately cease and desist from including the Christian "Holy Bible" (NIV) in your POW/MIA memorial display located in the lobby of your main administrative center at the Tobyhanna Army Depot, Building 11.

MRFF will not belabor the point, sir. This sordid matter is quite simple and clear cut. The inclusion of only one faith’s religious text, to the exclusion of all other faiths and no faith, is a direct violation of the "No Establishment Clause" of the First Amendment of the United States Constitution. It also creates an unlawful, de facto "religious test” in violation of the "No Religious Test” prohibition of Clause 3, Article VI of our nation’s Constitution. There are also other clear Constitutional violations here as well regarding Equal Protection matters et al.

MRFF has been very successful, even quite recently, in causing a number of similarly displayed bibles to be removed from such POW/MIA displays including VA facilities in Houston, Texas and in Akron and Youngstown, Ohio, as well as at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. A simple bit of research on your and your staff’s part will explain why MRFF has been able to force these facilities to adhere to the Constitution and remove the sectarian Christian bibles from those "Missing Man” POW/MIA memorials.

Colonel Peterson, please do the rightful and lawful thing here, sir. I am quite sure that you KNOW that our nation’s many honorable POWs and MIAs come from a literal galaxy of many different faith traditions and no faith traditions as well. Your utilization of ONLY the Christian religious scripture in your POW/MIA memorial display is a pernicious example of unconstitutional, fundamentalist Christian primacy, supremacy, exceptionalism and triumphalism. It is in direct violation of America’s Constitution, its construing Federal and State caselaw as well as a plethora of DoD and Army directives, regulations and instructions which specifically exist to protect the civil rights and liberties of all Army military and civilian personnel, not merely those who adhere to the "correct" version of the Christian faith.

It must stop NOW, Colonel Peterson! I am sure you can see why, sir.

**Oh, and just one more thing, Colonel Peterson; a REALLY BIG THING though! That Christian bible you’re illicitly employing as an integral part of your POW/MIA memorial is astonishingly made all the MORE unlawful and odious, in its illegal usage by you, due to the fact that the cover of it actually shows a giant military radar system illustration (no doubt meant to convey the main military mission of Tobyhanna as a DoD Logistics Center specializing in Communications-Electronics Systems) as well as the actual words "Tobyhanna Army Depot” in all too clearly discernible lettering at the bottom of the bible’s cover. Do you truly NOT see the enormity of the unconstitutionality there, sir?

Colonel, the utilization of that military radar illustration juxtaposed with the words of the official U.S. Army and DoD name of your military installation emblazoned ON THE COVER of that "Holy Bible" (NIV) are just abominable violations of the very same United States Constitution you, personally, swore an oath to support and defend.

Seriously? Got separation of church and state at Tobyhanna Army Depot, Colonel Peterson? MRFF and it’s numerous Tobyhanna Army Depot clients think not.

MRFF represents over 100 of the Army personnel under your absolute command at Tobyhanna Army Depot and the overwhelming majority of them happen to be active CHRISTIAN practitioners; either Protestant or Roman Catholic. What do THEY clearly see and know about this matter that apparently YOU and your staff do not, sir?

Please reply as to your decision regarding MRFF’s demand on behalf of its clients at Tobyhanna Army Depot that you immediately remove that Christian bible forthwith from your POW/MIA memorial display not later than Thursday, April 21, 2016. Additionally, please swiftly investigate any and all individuals either directly or indirectly responsible for putting the DoD radar system illustration and the name of your military installation on the front cover of the that Christian bible. Please aggressively punish those found to be responsible.

Failure to expeditiously remove the bible as directed herein will result in formal and official Inspector General and EEO complaints being lodged by MRFF’s clients under your command at Tobyhanna Army Depot in order to exhaust all administrative remedies, if necessitated, prior to seeking Federal Court litigation remedial relief.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this truly disappointing outrage,
