"Pentagon Tells Church to
Remove Military Seals
After Complaints"

The Pentagon has directed one of the nation's largest churches to remove insignia representing the branches of the military from an upcoming freedom celebration after an atheist group complained.

The First Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas was planning to honor members of the military during a special June 25 worship service called, "Freedom Sunday."

[...]

The annual event has caused outrage among atheists and city leaders because of the title of the pastor's sermon: "America is a Christian Nation."

The church's advertisement was removed from billboards after complaints were raised by a Dallas Morning News columnist that the pastor's message was hateful and divisive.

"The message will present the historical evidence for the bedrock of faith upon which America was founded," said Jeffress, who also serves as a spiritual advisor to President Trump.

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation jumped into the controversy by objecting to the church's use of the official seals of the branches of the U.S. military.

MRFF President Mikey Weinstein wrote in a letter to the Pentagon that the church's program was "repulsive" and use of the seals was a violation of military policy.

"It is imperative that First Baptist Dallas be stopped from associating Robert Jeffress' divisive, prejudiced, and bigoted version of fundamentalist Christian supremacy, domination and exclusivity directly with the U.S. Armed Forces," Weinstein wrote.

The Pentagon agreed and sent a letter asking the church to remove the military graphics from the program.

Pentagon Forces Pastor Robert Jeffress' Church to Remove Military Seals from Ad

Sunday, June 24, 2018

By: Hemant Mehta | The Friendly Atheist
Date: Sunday, June 24, 2018

Remember the "America is a Christian Nation" billboards that were recently taken down in Dallas, Texas? They were part of a promotional campaign by Pastor Robert Jeffress for a "Freedom Sunday" event taking place today morning.

The promotions were even worse than that false message. In a video for the event, Jeffress said the sermons would include a "salute to our Armed Forces." As he said it, each branch's seals were highlighted in the background:

[...]

On Thursday, the Military Religious Freedom Foundation sent a letter to Defense Secretary Jim Mattis urging him to put a stop to this:

[...]

separate letter was sent to Jeffress that day making the same demand.

As of Friday, the church said nothing would change, saying in a statement, "We plan to honor our military this Sunday at our Celebrate Freedom services, as planned."

But something must have happened since FOX News' Todd Starnes shared late last night how the church caved to government officials:

[...]

It's like the Pentagon copied and pasted Weinstein's letter in their own demand to First Baptist Church…

[...]

Jeffress may want to equate the Armed Forces with his brand of conservative Christian religion, but the military wants nothing to do with him.

RAW STORY COVERS MRFF

Trump's spiritual advisor busted by the Pentagon for illegally using military seals in ads for his church

Monday, June 25, 2018

By: Noor Al-Sibai | Raw Story
Date: Monday, June 25, 2018

Donald Trump's controversial "spiritual advisor" Robert Jeffress is once again under fire — but this time from the president's own administration.

Hemant Mehta at Patheos' The Friendly Atheist noted that in an ad for a sermon at his church, Jeffress featured the official seals for five branches of the U.S. military. Doing so is illegal, and the Military Religious Freedom Foundation made the pastor's gaffe abundantly clear in a letter sent to Defense Secretary Jim Mattis on June 21.

[...]

"The Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) officially requests that you expeditiously reach out to Robert Jeffress and/or his church to put an end to his illicit behavior in creating the impression that the U.S. Department of Defense is endorsing their tortured version of revisionist historical Christian primacy," the letter continued.

[...]

On Friday, after receiving the same letter as Mattis, a spokesperson for First Baptist Dallas said the church would "honor our military this Sunday at our Celebrate Freedom services, as planned." But late on Saturday night, Fox News' Todd Starnes posted on his personal website about the Pentagon's demand for the removal of the seals.

"The Pentagon has directed one of the nation's largest churches to remove insignia representing the branches of the military from an upcoming freedom celebration after an atheist group complained," the Fox host wrote.

"The Pentagon agreed [with MRFF] and sent a letter asking the church to remove the military graphics from the program," Starnes wrote.

"We are concerned that use of the DoD Component marks creates an appearance of endorsement and or affiliation with your church's Freedom Sunday, when that is not the case," the Pentagon told Jeffress in a letter, as provided by Starnes. "Federal regulations prohibit the use of official military markings in ways that imply endorsement of a commercial entity or activity."

"The Pentagon also said the church had unknowingly violated trademark licensing laws," his post continued.

Why is there always a fucking little jew behind every attack on good decent Christians like Rev. Robert Jeffress in Dallas?

Hope and pray you die of brain hemorrage tonight Mikey Weinstein.

Slow and painful for your sins against the blessed followers of Christ in our armed forces.

Same armed forces who liberated your uber-nosed jewcestors from the camps in Germany. 6 million (as if) was not enough.

What a waste of American Christian military time and effort. The jew is never grateful.

Once a fucking little jew always a fucking little jew.

Your organization is disgusting. Pathetic. Abhorrent. You know nothing about the US Constitution. Are you free to share your thoughts? Yes. Because of the 1st Amendment. What you aren’t free to do is prevent others from sharing their thoughts or worshiping in the manner they feel appropriate INCLUDING while they are in uniform. Your organization disgusts me. I hope Jesus Christ judges you for the hopeless organization that you are.

Regards,

I don't read all your emails Mikey. I have bad eye sight and don’t get around much. But each email I receive reminds me of the invaluable service the MRFF performs!

Years ago the MRFF stopped the Army dead in its tracks to require a "spiritual" test.
I understand what the Army goal was, but to require a test of faith went too far. Because I had spoken up before I contacted MRFF, they pretty much knew it was me that contacted MRFF. So I was thrown under the bus. I do not regret my decision one iota!!

Mikey has literally put his life on the line for those of all or no faith.

Cheers Mikey…my brother!

I often think of you as the buddy in a bar room. Someone tries to pick on you. And before you can enter the fight, Mikey has set you aside to take the first punch! You are the man!

Love you Mikey!
