MRFF's SENIOR RESEARCH DIRECTOR CHRIS RODDA ON HUFFINGTON POST & DAILY KOS

"Christian Fighter Pilot" Jonathan Dowty Accuses First Lesbian
Air Force Academy
Commandant of Being a Liar

Monday, March 27, 2017

In a new post on his "Christian Fighter Pilot" blog titled "BGen Kristin Goodwin and the USAFA Honor Code," Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Dowty has accused BGen (Select) Goodwin, who has been nominated to be the Air Force Academy's next commandant of cadets, of being a liar. Dowty's basis for this accusation? Goodwin graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1993, but the policy of "Don't ask, don't tell" (DADT) wasn't implemented until 1994. Therefore, according to LtCol Dowty, Goodwin, who is a lesbian, must have lied about her sexual orientation in order to join the Air Force, asking in his blog post: "How did Col Goodwin — an open homosexual — enter the Air Force without lying?"

So who is LtCol Jonathan Dowty, and why does what he writes on his "Christian Fighter Pilot" blog matter? As for the first part of that question — who is LtCol Jonathan Dowty? — MRFF has been busy fielding questions about that since Dowty's post about BGen(S) Goodwin came out, with some emails putting it as bluntly as asking: "Who is this Dowty asshole?" [...]

To Military religious freedom,

I have just read the post and complaint against Major General Julie Benz, and I want to say that it is full of half truths and skewed opinion.

I was at that prayer breakfast. Major General Julie Benz did not state that her main goal was to evangelize! And her statement of "lifting everyone and their families up to the throne room of God" was for their PROTECTION .... NOT for their conversion! I felt proud and safe to have someone of her caliber of integrity and intelligence to be at the head of an organization protecting our homeland!

Having one person's concerns brought public in this way and in this manner does not show that this organization holds the same integrity. It shows that your title of "protecting the religious freedom's of our military" has its own biases.

To have personnel attack her in such a manner as actually made me lose a little faith in our states military.

Sincerely,
