If you do not like it simply move.

I came to your website by accident and was appalled by what I
read. I am a vet. and this country was built with the words " one
nation under GOD". If you do not like it simply move. No-one
needs you . Why should I have to follow your wisdom, what makes
you higher than God? Get a life.

Jack,

I wanted to take a quick moment to respond to the e-mail you sent to the Military Religious Freedom Foundation.

I too am a Veteran who served the United States honorably and I am Jewish. The V.A. has discriminated against me repeatedly because I am Jewish and it was Mikey Weinstein and the Military Religious Freedom Foundation that stood by me while others were just standing on the sidelines. As a result of Mikey's timely and energetic advocacy I became personally involved with the MRFF, gladly donating my time and energies.

I must admit that I'm curious. Certainly you don't believe that just because you're a Christian your service to the Nation is superior to mine, or your faith makes you more worthy of fair treatment than me? In this regard a little education goes a long way. Are you aware that "One nation under God" was an interpolation that was added to the Pledge of Allegiance by Congress in 1954 during the infamous Red Scare, and subsequently the Courts have ruled it violates the First Amendment of the Constitution? Did your high school teach the U.S. Constitution? Do you recall that the Establishment Clause of the Constitution clearly establishes a wall of separation between Church and State? Thomas Jefferson himself wrote extensively about this particular issue; in fact his is the one who coined the term "wall of separation between Church and State". If you had studied early American history beyond the fable of Washington cutting down the cherry tree you'd have encountered extensive writings regarding why our Founding Fathers wanted to keep a great distance between Church and State. It's noteworthy that during the debate on the Constitution many prominent Christian ministers, along with their denominations, were some of the most vocal advocates for delineating in the Constitution a clear separation between Church and State. The Reverend John Leland, a Baptist Minister, was only one of many outspoken advocates for the separation of Church and State - with a little time spent researching him on-line, you can see this for yourself.

Finally, it is particularly noteworthy that the Barbary Treaties, drawn up by representatives of the American Government and ratified by the United States Senate in 1797, specifically addresses your erroneous beliefs; it reads in part: "As the Government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion..." - it is a simple matter for you to research and verify this. I hope you'll take the time since as a serviceman, like me, you once took a pledge to defend the Constitution of the United States; not even your discharge from the military can relieve you of your responsibility to honor this pledge.

Regards,

Akiva Miller
